exploding steak

Again, I'd like for there to be a stupidity law; a law against stupid people. I'm not saying that they're guilty of child abuse or it's an intentional act of malice, but there's a kid in the backseat. You'd think that'd be enough to remember there's a kid in the backseat. You don't need to put your lunch back there, or a briefcase. There's a damn kid, that's enough. If that isn't bad enough don't forget the poochie. Yeah, and this isn't the way to transport babies either.

Not to say it isn't true, but that's the weirdest excuse. I need one to save my family too... uh yeah.

You think? Hmm, let's do the math. Alcohol + Speed + Texting. Yup. It all adds up to death. You know, I don't feel bad when this stuff happens. I think it sucks that emergency services have to go out there and scrap up the mess when there could be other things they could be doing like say polishing chrome. No, I'm not going to say that the family should pay the city for crap like this, but maybe they should be sterilized so they can't have more children. I do wonder what the text message was, you know, what was important enough to die over. I hope it wasn't anything like this because I don't even know if it's worth $250.

My political addition. Ah, the great democracy engine at work. Is it really a democracy when only one person votes? I dunno. I guess, because at least everyone has the option to vote but choose not to do so.

Indiana Primaries

You know what I hate about elections? It's not that we're faced with candidates that say they're about change while maintaining the status quo. It's not the idea that we're perpetuating a broken system. Nor is it about the campaign funding that represent major corporations but do not represent the people.
No. You know what I really hate about elections? Preempting regularly schedule programing!!! Stupid elections, it doesn't matter who wins, we all lose. I'm pissed about missing my shows because they're being tossed assigned for news coverage of polling locations. Who the f*ck cares about who Joe C*cksucker and his wife voted for. Is it newsworthy? No. Not a lot of things in this world is newsworthy.

And how crappy my DVR is because it doesn't take into consideration stuff like this. I pay alot of money for my cable and it sucks. Unfortunately, I'm stuck between sucky cable and nothing.

I HATE ELECTIONS!

chokin'

You've heard of them but rarely do you see them in print. We've had several discussions in my many criminal justice classes about these dumb laws. Now some of them make sense. I mean, in Florida it is illegal to have sexual relations with a porcupine. Makes sense doesn't it? I don't think it needs to be a law, but it is logical. What I wonder about it how these laws come about... is it because someone does it but since it isn't in the law books it isn't illegal, so lawmakers put it on the books? Or are people electing jokesters that put these laws in? Just find out how many "laws" you've been breaking. I've broken 14 "laws" in Indiana so far.

I'm less scared of a "Pinky & The Brain" situation than I am of just the fact that people are messing around with fear. That's not cool. Fear has been the best defense mechanism for hundreds of thousands of years. The mouse that doesn't run from the cat doesn't live long enough to have more mice. Same with humans.

Oh my God! It's eating the shuttle!

I don't know exactly how glowing kitties are supposed to help cure disease but I'm up for anything.

I see the logical in their argument but I would take it one step further and blame the lawmakers that made it illegal to consume those drugs in the first place. I mean, it's not like the police are out there just enforcing whatever they want, no, they're enforcing laws that are passed by legislation. Yeah! Sue lawmakers! It's not illegal right?

sweet child of mine

OK, I can't find the link now but yesterday I decided to take an some surveys yesterday. Not of the Myspace variety either, the serious ones. Or at least I thought so. The site had a specific section geared towards the military. So I thought I'd go ahead and answer a few questions to get some results. I clicked on the link to answer some questions to see if I had PTSD. For such a complex disease you'd think there would be a lot of questions. Instead, I got like a 20 question survey like "Have you every felt worthless in the last six months?" No moron, I'm a ray of sunshine 24/7. "Have you every felt intense anger in the last six months?" Again, no, because I'm a fricken saint! They also asked if I ever been deployed OCONUS (Outside CONtential United States) but didn't ask where or for how long. You know Hawaii is considered OCONUS right? Umm, great. So guess what? I've got PTSD. Anyone can have it if you just answer honestly. On the results page they tell me I should get checked out.
Then I went ahead and answered some of the other surveys. I'm also depressed (true), bi-polar (also true), and an alcoholic (very true). Ha! That's awesome. Ugh. I need some happy news. And by happy I just mean funny.

Oh no! It's Daylight Savings! Run for the hills. It's the end of the world! OK, well maybe it's not that severe but it is pretty bad. Part of Congress' Energy Policy Act included the fact that we'd observe daylight savings 3 weeks ahead of schedule and keep observing it one week past. So we'd get more "daylight" for an extra month. Keep in mind that this is just for the US and Canada. They got sucked in because they're in the same time zones as us. Now what this means is that for 3 weeks we'll be "ahead" of the rest of the world, then it'll go back to normal, then the rest of the world will fall behind us again while we bask in our glory for one more week. Hey, I like the sunlight. I don't understand the purpose behind daylight savings but hey, I grew up with it, I've learned to deal with it.
This is what pisses me off. Congress did this with the "intention" of saving energy? How does it save energy? That's like taping your car's odometer to 000001.0 and driving around. Yay! The car only has a mile on it. Just because you alter the readings doesn't mean anything. Businesses are still going to be working for 8 hours a day right? What did daylight savings do? Oh, well, it puts more of the sunlight during the work day. Oh, well, great. Thanks. The only thing that affects is the automatic light system in the parking lot. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think that changes anything because well, it's still only 9 hours of sunlight and 15 hours of darkness. It's just that now the 9 hours is between 9am to 6pm instead of 8am to 5pm. Brilliant plan people.
It wouldn't be such a big deal except that we're so dependent on our computers with the automatic time update, our cell phones that get accurate time, and all the other computerize crap. It's a nuisance to the rest of the world. And not to sound un-American, but the US is not the center of the world! This kind of crap affects the whole world. Well, it really doesn't bother the little Nigerian kids starving in the streets. They got other things to worry about. I'm just implying that this unilateral action affects a great deal in the world. Like if you decided that instead of driving between the lines on the highway that you drove on the line so that you take up two lanes. Well, that's great but you've effectively congested two lanes instead of one, not something to be proud of. Shame on you Congress!

Didn't I say this would happen?

on the bounce!

This is one of the few books I've actually read outside of school that had a real lesson. Or at least I think it had a lesson to teach, I could be imagining things. It is one of the few cases in which I can utter the phrase, "The book is better than the movie." And actually mean it.

I had a nice deep thought last night, between watching Family Guy and reading up on all the crap going on in the House and Senate, I got to thinking of responsibility and this book. In the book, to run for public office (senator, president, police officer) you have to serve a term in the military. It's not like our military where the goal is larger numbers, the military in the book is smaller but more elite. Like the Marines slogan, "The Few, The Proud, The Marines" this book makes it so that if you want to serve your country (planet), then you find out mentally if you really want to serve. It's not fashionable to go through all of that just because everyone else is, but a badge of honor.

Even voting is restricted to veterans. The whole thing is summed up in a discussion between a civilian and a citizen (veteran). You can make tons of money, you can even bribe yourself a senator, but you can't vote to keep him in office. I'm not saying that it's a good system or even if it is a plausible system, but it does make you wonder if our standards for public servants is too low. Are they any requirements? US citizen. Hmm, hard only if you had to actually take the citizenship test. I failed that bad boy. What else? Money? To campaign with? That's crap.

I'm not advocating this system of government, the majority of the people I've met in a military career can not step back and look at the bigger picture. They're under-educated and probably don't even know what the bigger picture is. Some complex requirements would be necessary. Age is not a requirement, neither is citizenship. Yes it's fundamental, but you can be born into the Kennedy family and wait until you're a certain age but that doesn't make you a politican. Yes, your family has done great things for this country but that doesn't mean that you will. Prove that you're worthy of the name. Can't? Then you shouldn't run for anything.

Our soldiers overseas getting shot at on a daily basis are making an average of $2000 a month (tax free). They work anywhere from 12-20 hours a day on average, only getting two weeks off for a whole year's worth of work. That's crap pay for what they do, but they don't do it for the money. Granted everything is provided for them, but how is that different than a politicans here? Give the politicans all standard housing, pay for all the utilities but only pay them minimum wage. Maybe put a tip jar out front for them. Let's see how they like them apples.
